TWIN STAR QUILT BLOCK FREE PATTERN

Do you worry about making star blocks because of the all the seams meeting in one place?

twin star quilt block free patternThe twin star quilt block is one of those blocks that gives the impression of a star but is easy to put together because you don't have all those seams meeting in the middle.

The twin star quilt block looks good with most fabrics but I have chosen to use Christmas fabrics for this one.

twin star quilt block free patternTo make this twin star as an 18" quilt block you will need:
Five 6.1/2" squares gold fabric
Two 6.3/4" squares green fabric
One 7" square red fabric
One 7" square gold fabric

Cut the two 7" squares along both diagonals to give 4 triangles of red and of gold.

Cut the two green squares along one diagonal to give 4 triangles.

twin star quilt block free patternLay the twin star pieces out as shown:  one gold square in each corner and in the middle, one green triangle along each edge of the central gold square and the small red and gold triangles along the diagonal edge of each green triangle.
Do check carefully with the photo as you lay them out:  it's very easy to put the triangles the wrong way round.  In fact, I tried to make life easy by sewing the red and gold together as squares and then splitting them to make triangles, but I ended up with 2 of the red/gold triangles facing the wrong way.  That's why I recommend laying all the pieces out as in the photo before starting sewing.

Add the gold squares on either side.

For the second row again sew the red/gold triangles to the green triangle and then add the gold square in the middle.

Sew the 1st row to the 2nd row, taking care to match the seams of the squares, and then add the 3rd row.

I am going to use my twin star quilt block as a Christmas table centre piece - to read more click on table centre free pattern.
