QUICK SEW SCISSORS POUCH TUTORIAL
Scissors can be a bit of a pain to carry around because if you're not careful you can end up with a hole in the bag or some such disaster. This scissors pouch holds your scissors securely and safely and it also saves them from getting lost under a mound of fabric. Although I'm sure other quilters are far better organised than me and don't buy their scissors!
It's really simple to make and comes together really quickly if you are looking for a quick gift. I began with 9" squares of two different fabrics and of wadding. This will suit scissors up to about 7.1/2" long. If your scissors are longer than that then just use larger squares. Lay down the wadding first and then the two fabric squares with right sides together.
Sew a seam about 1/4" from the edge around three and a half edges, leaving a gap half way across one of the edges so that you can turn the pouch right side out. Trim the edges and snip across the corners to reduce bulk.
Turn the pouch right side out through the gap, gently pushing out the corners. Turn the edges in across the gap, pin and slipstitch in place. With hindsight I think I would have quilted at this stage to flatten it down a little but it still worked fine without quilting.
Fold the square in half along the diagonal. Measure one quarter of the way along the top edge and mark a line from this point to the point of the triangle at the bottom. Sew along this line as shown on the right. Because of the bulk I actually sewed my line slightly to the left of the bottom triangle point.
Turn the pouch so that the fold is at the back and press down the seam, opening the two edges. You have a triangular pouch to put your scissors in and now you just need to decide on what fastening to use for the lid of the pouch.
I have used a pressed stud for this scissors pouch, but I have seen some really pretty pouches with beads and buttons used for the fastening.
