This is another of those deceptively simple patchwork quilt blocks that can be quite a feature of your quilt.
Take a 4.1/2" square of each fabric and place with right sides together. With a pencil mark a line along the diagonal and sew a seam 1/4" to either side of the pencil line. Cut along the pencil line and you should have 2 squares made of a triangle of each fabric.
Repeat the process with the other 4.1/2" squares and with the smaller 2.3/4" squares. You should now have 4 large squares and 8 smaller squares, all made up of a triangle of each fabric.
For each quarter of the cross and crown quilt block you will need 1 large patchwork square, 2 small patchwork squares, 1 white 2.1/2" square and 1 white rectangle. Sew the rectangle to one of the small patchwork squares as shown and the white square to the other small patchwork square.
Sew the 2 small squares to the top of the large square and then sew the rectangle and square to the left side of the large patchwork square. Again, check carefully that you are sewing to the correct side of the square each time.
Repeat the process 3 times to make the remaining quarters of the patchwork quilt block.
Repeat with the other 2 crown blocks and then sew the 13.1/4" strip of yellow fabric to the bottom of the 1st 2 blocks and the top of the 2nd pair of blocks as shown.
