Bow Tie Quilt Block
The bow tie quilt block pattern is another of the easy patterns great for a beginner quilter. It is known to have been published in 1898 as neck tie, but over the years has become known as the bow tie quilt block pattern.
It's a 4 patch quilt block and is shown here in 2 colours only, but can look quite striking when more colours are used.To make a 6" bow tie quilt block, you will need two 3.1/2" squares of blue, two 3.1/2" squares of brown and two 1.1/2" squares of blue.
With right sides together, place a small blue square in one corner of a large square. Sew across the diagonal of the small square.
Trim the excess fabric of the corner about 1/4" from the seam - that's the 2 bottom layers of fabric - and flip the remaining triangle down to complete the square.
Do the same with the other brown square and then sew a large blue square to each brown square.Sew the 2 pairs of squares together and that completes the bow tie quilt block.
