Bow Tie Quilt Block

The bow tie quilt block pattern is another of the easy patterns great for a beginner quilter.  It is known to have been published in 1898 as neck tie, but over the years has become known as the bow tie quilt block pattern.

bow tie quilt block patternIt's a 4 patch quilt block and is shown here in 2 colours only, but can look quite striking when more colours are used.

To make a 6" bow tie quilt block, you will need two 3.1/2" squares of blue, two 3.1/2" squares of brown and two 1.1/2" squares of blue.

With right sides together, place a small blue square in one corner of a large square.  Sew across the diagonal of the small square.

Trim the excess fabric of the corner about 1/4" from the seam - that's the 2 bottom layers of fabric - and flip the remaining triangle down to complete the square.

Sew the 2 pairs of squares together and that completes the bow tie quilt block.
